An Unruly History of the Readymade
september 8, 2008 - february 2009
participate: Eduardo Abaroa, Abarham Cruzvillegas, Minerva Cuevas, Daniel Guzmán, Gabriel Kuri, Gabriel Orozco, Damián Ortega and Rirkrit Tiravanija.
An Unruly History of the Readymade is the sixth interpretation of La Colección Jumex. The exhibit takes its theme from the groundbreaking introduction of the Readymade by Marcel Duchamp in 1913 and presents an unruly history (disobedient, argumentative, and perhaps contradictory) of the consequences of this gesture. Over eighty artists explore this continuous project, which has been re-energized, re-discovered, and re-thought up to the present day resulting in a complex, socially and culturally expanded concept. The show is curated by Jessica Morgan, Curator of Contemporary Art, Tate Modern, London.
